"But it's a pity that a few Tibetan separatists want to disrupt and sabotage the torch relay,"

while the situation in tibet is no doubt disheartening, i have mixed feelings

its not well known how many parallel situations have happened in this country with our aboriginal people....leonard peltier, a member of the american indian movement, has been in prison for 30 years convicted on murder of 2 fbi agents...plethoras of evidence have shown peltier to be innocent, nonetheless he has remained incarcerated

similarly a movie called homeland was made in 2006 reporting on the potential destruction of 4 tribes throughout the united states based on dismantling of EPA regulations...this includes a paper mill poluting a river in maine, oil drilling in alaska, uranium mining in new mexico, and soil depletion in montana

i guess my point is the liberal heart of america has a tendency to latch on to somewhat trendy ideas...the dalai lama is smart, thats why he gets people like steven segall on his side...i undoubtedly have a great respect for the tibetan people, but i feel the need to argue for the realistic viewpoint

china is a beast of over 1 billion people...there are over 150 million MIGRANT workers....this is the first time people have had money in centuries....controlling tibet helps them keep india on their toes and in check...this is why they support pakistan as well

tibetans ruled in china in the 8th century by the way and they engaged in not the most beautiful civic practices...buddhism too, was just as an organized religion as any others...why else would there be esoteric/tantric buddhists? the normal ones were too straight and bureaucratic

but nonetheless, i think its rad those kids in europe got to get a little nuts, its just a shame to me that it only happens in such events where the situation presents itself...2008 is going to be wild...08/08/08 the BEIJING OLYMPICS, WTF MATE?

ps...how could you ever run from a parisian cop on roller blades?

and furthermore, isn't the risky, irresponsible lending of corrupt, elite financial institutions leaving thousands homeless and costing the world $1 trillion, a human rights violation?

whats happening between the US, China, and India right now are hopes for potentially reconciling based on a restructuring of their traditional ideologies and they are sacrificing certain elements of liberty for the continuance of economic gain and strategic planning

same shit in Kashmir
same shit in America/Iraq

I mean what the fuck, are they going to free tibet and let taiwan declare independance? are they going to stop what they're doing in africa? they're giving people infrastructure, thats good right?

what about us in iraq? And what if our nuclear deal with india goes through? is that an act to counter balance china? do we want to contain them anyway in a real way and not just a public opinion way?
Do we have the right to do that?
And do we have the right to influence the world through tricky economic legislature to turn world heads away from Iran?

i think, for me, this scenerio is less about the politics and more about the action. i mean, china is no doubt a dubious detrimental demon of sorts when it comes to lisiting to people. they have state run media, blocked internet, poor polltion.... blah blah. this olympics is in part a facade to show off their building techniques and evolving economy. this is not new.
by having people activly trampling on the torch cerimony it shows that there are not blinded by china.

i totally agree that there are plenty of things to battle on all fronts of our modern society. from war, to under-representaion, to sex-trade, conscious expansion, to native rights and a host of things that have been blogged about here... what is wrong with a cause becoming "trendy?" it still has the heart of change, even if dillluted slightly by the vast number of people, and with a group fighting the same cause at the same time, the possibility of change is greatly increased. if everyone is pulling in all directions at once, where is the blobular hulla-hoop of people gonna end up? when the chance presents itself, seize the oppurtunity...

tibetans are in my mind arguing for a realistic goal. the dalai lama has stated that he does not want full independance, only some cultural determinism and a safe place to exist in his homeland. is it too much to ask that their capital city not be turned into a police state/amusement park?

there are tons of fights to wage. what is the point of deeming some more rightous than others? each person feels a situation and has a path of heart to follow. it will always be different, but hopefully they will all be means to the ends we all wish to see.

Over the months of ShredSomething blogging, we have effectively pinpointed and discussed many of the grave situations that we currently face on earth. I am adamant that in order to move away from the oppressive cycles we are seemingly embedded in we must be tenacious in our understanding of them. On the other hand, sometimes I feel as though this has turned into a place to share negative and shocking pieces of news, to share fear and disillusionment instead of hope and understanding. As DP states: "The boundary between the psychic and the material is becoming thinner, more permeable." I believe that in order to move above and beyond our current limitations we must stop focusing on how terrible they are and replace that strength of emotion with excitement, optimism and wide eyes welcoming a new paradigm of existence. We are influencing the permeability and I feel that we need to be cautious about what our energy is being focused on. I sometimes feel that I have kicked the dog of oppression enough times in my head to truly be able to separate myself from the negative and focus on being open to the forces at work and to the subconscious pact that I feel with the universe telling me things work as they should (free will? whole other head breaker.) I understand that many of the things that have gotten me to the place I am in right now have been scary, disheartening and downright disgusting. Although these pieces of information startle me into being more mindful, their motivating power pales in comparison to the beautiful portraits painted by positivity, introspection and enlightenment.

In the vein of willing transformation, lets be positive, lets catalyze new forms of understanding and hope that they do become trendy, as Phil said (I would say Terence McKenna is pretty trendy. And thank god for that.) I'm not saying forget that bad things are happening on a grand scale, I'm saying that I think some of us have a great enough understanding of them to put the sadness and outrage aside and simply live as an open being embodying change. Lets fight for change through positivity not fear.

What is a realistic viewpoint?

Yeah shit is fucked up. Should I worry? No. Should I be apathetic towards and ignorant of current issues? No. Should I spend all my time understanding all of the oppression and evil? For me, I don't think so. Should I have hope that there are countless people being exposed to wonderful reality shattering pieces of information across the globe? Yes. Should I choose to wage battles on things that speak to me personally and infuse my energy into those situations and corners of consciousness? Abso-fucking-lutely.

Beginning with introspection and self realization on the inside catalyzes and accelerates change and beauty on the outside. Polarity everywhere.....

Make change from within, effect the permeability of reality with your own conscious meditation.

And then untz some faces....

Protesting any one part of injustice and bringing it into international light can be positive and will do good. I agree with Phil that seizing this opportunity to bring this issue into light cannot be overlooked. Hopefully more opportunities will present themselves closer to home.

These people are doing more than just bitching. That is admirable to me. I bitch a lot.

phil and doze,

a despair cloud blocks the sun light day in and day out...don't exactly know how to control it...sometimes it comes from chem trails

i know its not good, cause often i don't say what i want to say...but i think what i was trying to say is I wish we could fight the battles i see here...i think we all feel that, and i think you're right that that battle has been expounded on enough, and only what we do from within can have an effect on our personal nexuses...its just so damn frustrating sometimes

i get this crazy moral indignation to want to do something, then i realize i can't, then i can become cynical

i am almost done studying government...luckily this isn't the only thing i am interested in, it just happens to be what i am immersed in now

thanks again
you dudes are smart

taka- i hear you buddy. that whole thing i wrote on relating to one another and our crazy world weeks ago was my way of attempting to express those same feelings that you described. Its weird to feel so strongly about things that are so invisible and unimportant to others. we all struggle with this shit (life) at times but its ok cause people like us around the world are helping bring things to light together and as one.

namaste way

However to do this in a better way than mowing down olympians and the physically challenged, i think this is agreeable, what ever happenend to realistic and active transnational advocacy groups

"In the vein of willing transformation, lets be positive, lets catalyze new forms of understanding and hope that they do become trendy"

thanks for being so succinct on this guys...im a little late to make a timely comment on this post...good articulation
