Studio 54

Studio 54

Hybernská 38, Prague 1

Metro: Florenc (line B, C) or Hlavní Nádraží (line C)
Add to favorites Email to a friend Print Details
Description from Avant-Guide
The place to go after daybreak when all other options have been exhausted, Studio is an amped up party of chemicalized club kids who come to this dark and hygienically-challenged cellar to dance until noon because bed or sunlight are not attractive alternatives. The clientele are young and beautiful and the deep house DJs are tops. No wonder this place is often busy and loud, even at 7am.

The description says it all...

more Prague

So there is this place called Studio 54, kind of a weak name I know...anyhow
they dont open until between like 12am and 2am but they have rotating DJs all night long (I stayed there till noon the next day) they sell rolls at the coat check among other things. If these kids are real shrominators they should hit this place up. All night throw down, literally!

It is right up the street from the main square and the "powder tower" they can find all that stuff when they get there, but let them know about it. I think you can find info about it on that prague.tv website.

Prague

I dont know what "paper" you are talking about but here is a link that has just about everything going on in prague from restaurants, exhibits, other sight seeing stuff, to of course shredding reports.

"In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."

So, shall we just go ahead and make sure that what happened to Niemoeller doesn't happen to us and those around us who have no idea that anyone's even coming for anyone yet?

'Green Gridlock' at Trademark Office

Eco-Friendly Brands Become a Hot Commodity

Published: April 22, 2008

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Getting ready well in advance for today's Earth Day events, marketers bombarded the Patent and Trademark Office last year for green-themed marks, leading to a 10% spike in trademark filings over 2006, according to a report released by the law firm Dechert.

According to the annual report "Trends in Trademarks," filings for new trademarks last year topped 300,000, setting a record buoyed by interest in environmentalism. The previous record was 289,000 filings, set in 2000 during the internet boom.

'Green gridlock'The surge led to "green gridlock, with multiple companies filing for almost-identical marks at nearly the same time," wrote Glenn Gundersen, chair of Dechert's trademark practice, in the report. "Clearly, it's not easy being green, since a trademark by definition is a distinctive term. ... Many of these me-too filings will either not merit legal protection or will be very weak trademarks."

Applications for everything from the obvious ("Eco-Friendly," "Go Green") to the slightly more creative ("Green Is the New Black," "Red States, Blue States, Green States") flooded the trademark office in 2007.

"Green" was the most popular word among marketers, with applications more than doubling from 1,100 in 2006 to 2,400 in 2007. That follows a 23% increase in applications in 2005 and a 37% increase in 2006.

Eco-maniaTrademarks with the prefix "eco" were just as hot, also more than doubling, with nearly 900 new applications in 2007. Products ranging from an Eco-Brella to an EcoCoffin were submitted to the trademark office. Mr. Gundersen provided a tongue-in-cheek assessment, noting that "if all the new eco-branded products filed in 2007 actually came to market, an Eco Citizen could buy an EcoHouse in EcoTown from an Eco Realtor."

"Clean" was also in demand, paired with everything from "green" to "fuel" to "power." And trademarks using the word "friendly" saw an 88% increase, while filings using the word "energy" jumped 25%. Interest in the word "organic" was also at an all-time high, with filings using the word increasing 57% over 2006.

Do you know what you're standing on?

crop circles and geometric proofs

Several years ago, astronomer Gerald S. Hawkins, former Chairman of the astronomy department at Boston University, noticed that some of the most visually striking of the crop-circle patterns embodied geometric theorems that express specific numerical relationships among the areas of various circles, triangles, and other shapes making up the patterns (Science News: 2/1/92, p. 76). In one case, for example, an equilateral triangle fitted snugly between an outer and an inner circle. It turns out that the area of the outer circle is precisely four times that of the inner circle.Three other patterns also displayed exact numerical relationships, all of them involving a diatonic ratio, the simple whole-number ratios that determine a scale of musical notes. "These designs demonstrate the remarkable mathematical ability of their creators," Hawkins comments.Hawkins found that he could use the principles of Euclidean geometry to prove four theorems derived from the relationships among the areas depicted in crop circles. He also discovered a fifth, more general theorem, from which he could derive the other four (see diagram, above). "This theorem involves concentric circles which touch the sides of a triangle, and as the [triangle] changes shape, it generates the special crop-circle geometries," he says.Hawkins' fifth crop-circle theorem involves a triangle and various concentric circles touching the triangle's sides and corners. Different triangles give different sets of circles. An equilateral triangle produces one of the observed crop-circle patterns; three isoceles triangles generate the other crop-circle geometries. What is most surprising is that all geometries give diatonic (musical) ratios. Never before have geometric theorems been linked with music.Curiously, Hawkins could find no reference to such a theorem in the works of Euclid or in any other book that he consulted. When he challenged readers of Science News and The Mathematics Teacher to come up with his unpublished theorem, given only the four variations, no one reported success. In July 1995, however, "the crop-circle makers . . . showed knowledge of this fifth theorem," Hawkins reports. Among the dozens of circles surreptitiously laid down in the wheat fields of England, one pattern fit Hawkins' theorem based on the stringent definitions, on the rules established by the circles over the period 1980 to the present. The Circlemakers responsible for this old-fashioned type of mathematical ingenuity remain at large and unknown. Their handiwork flaunts a facility with Euclidean geometry and signals an astonishing ability to bend living plants without cracking stalks, and to trace out complex, precise patterns, most under cover of darkness, with a few notable exceptions during daytime.

preaching to the choir....

A brief history of hemp and the USA is found in this article. So many of our environmental problems could be solved with the aid of increased hemp production for everything from diet protein and fatty acids, to clothing, to bio-degradable plastics, to fuel to medicine and of course entertainment. But as so many other things, it is not "profitable" in the short term as compared to deforestation and petroleum. So, what else is new.... dollars = sense. Great article tho.

Interesting nugget of thought as well (see galactic federation...):
"The pot plant is an ALIEN plant. There is physical evidence that cannabis is not like any other plant on this planet. One could conclude that it was brought here for the benefit of humanity. Hemp is the ONLY plant where the males appear one way and the females appear very different, physically! No one ever speaks of males and females in regard to the plant kingdom because plants do not show their sexes; except for cannabis. To determine what sex a certain, normal, Earthly plant is: You have to look internally, at its DNA. A male blade of grass (physically) looks exactly like a female blade of grass. The hemp plant has an intense sexuality."

"I don't want to buy anything, sell anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that either."--lloyd dobler

Some things to keep in mind...

Hey guys,

Recently I've been watching friends drop their cellphones regularly...One occasion when a woman dropped her phone, her friend said I just dropped mine in a glass of water yesterday! (Note: water kills cancer causing cellphone)

If you didn't catch this link, give it a look...Regular cell use after 10 years doubles your chance of brain cancer....I do not find it too far out that as the body coughs when a dust particle flies into your mouth, cell phones are also being cast away....

Another thought that I had a while ago and have been practicing is the effect of electronics on sleep...For the past couple months I have been unplugging my devices and pulling the battery out of my cell phone...A new story sheds light on the topic

I find this stuff pretty interesting when we are talking about the capabilities of consciousness...if anything after hearing this, things like psychedelics make sense...if the high-tech world is closing doors, something must serve to open them perhaps?

This in conjunction with the food we eat, and what is happening in the sky I think is very depictive of our moods and attitudes...and while in a way I am advocating balance to the extent in which your current lifestyle allows you to achieve it, I am also interested in special doses of freer channels of existence in order to help make the potential shifts in mind, a greater possibility...i mean we floss our teeth right

Money

Here is a two part article questioning the exploitation, expansion and domination of our oppressive colonial model of existence. When the overriding goal is to extract more wealth than you put in, you are effectively creating scarcity and greed while ignoring the environmental and life sustaining repercussions of an infinite expansion. Wealth lies in relation, spirituality and sharing not in proliferation and the exploitation of ideas, people and natural resources. Our system makes the audacious presumption that we don't already have everything we need to live a full, contented and enlightened existence. Many of the world's most impoverished people live with smiles stemming from the understanding that they need not concern themselves with material gain and shortsighted exploitation.

New Bill: Artists Loose All Rights to Their Creations

"Currently, you don't have to register your artwork to own the copyright. You own a copyright as soon as you create something. International law also supports this. Right now, registration allows you to sue for damages, in addition to fair value...

If the Orphan Works legislation passes, you and I and all creatives will lose virtually all the rights to not only our future work but to everything we've created over the past 34 years, unless we register it with the new, untested and privately run (by the friends and cronies of the U.S. government) registries. Even then, there is no guarantee that someone wishing to steal your personal creations won't successfully call your work an orphan work, and then legally use it for free.

With the tens of millions of photos and pieces of artwork created each year, the bounty for forcing everyone to pay a registration fee would be enormous. We lose our rights and our creations, and someone else makes money at our expense.

This includes every sketch, painting, photo, sculpture, drawing, video, song and every other type of creative endeavor. All of it is at risk!"
