The Reconcilation of Spirit and Matter?

...seems there just one story, that lasts throughout eternity...
...yet strangely having nothing to do with discos or biscuits...
...but perhaps certain sectors...
...particularly that of 9...

...there is not much more need for...
...widespread panic...
...because all those riding the railroad know...
...the true nature of the earth...

...we are deeply grateful...
...for the breaking open of our heads...
...and we hope those that have fallen...
...are too...

Emo Sweep The Nation...No Wait Globe

I dont pretend to condone negative thinking and attitudes...but WOAH, following a little too close...this could be too much

The violence began March 7, when an estimated 800 young people poured into the Mexican city of Queretaro’s main plaza “hunting” for emo kids to pummel. Then the following weekend similar violence occurred in Mexico City at the Glorieta de Insurgents, a central gathering space for emos. Hernandez also reports that several anti-emo riots have now also spread to various other Mexican cities.
Via the Austin American Statesmen, several postings on Mexican social-networking sites, primarily organising spot for these “emo hunts,” have been dug up and translated. One states: “I HATE EMOS!!! They are not even people, they are so stupid, they cry over meaningless things… My school is infested with them, I want to kill them all!”

Another says: “We’ve never seen all the urban tribes unite against one single tribe before… Emos, their way of thinking is for crap, if you are so depressed please do us all a favour and kill yourselves!”

Dozme Said Lets Build Cairns...I Say Lets Combine Passions

A cairn is a pile of stones raised as a monument, boundary, or landmark, common in the mountains and fells of the Scottish Highlands and throughout Great Britain. Goldsworthy builds these hoar-stones as journey markers to his travels, leaving a trail. An egg-shaped cairn six feet tall in the valley of Glenleith Fell, Dumfriesshire marks day becoming night -- Goldsworthy began work on it mid-morning of an October day in 1991, stacking the stone throughout the day until dusk and fitting the final stone at sundown. The next evening, he built another cairn in nearby Scaur Glen to mark night becoming day, beginning the job at midnight, working until dawn and finishing at daybreak. He used no mortar or glue, only a knowledge of the stone. Both cairns still stand today.

Running from sea to shinning sea? check.

Inventing a completely new mode of travel? (Albeit, using the previously invented wheel) - check.

That would be Glen Turner. I worked for him about 15 years ago, when he was simply running 48 and 60 hour races around a track, where the winner was the person with the most lapse in that time period. Working for him was, needless to say, exhausting.

Fifteen years later he is preparing to run around the world (no swimming across the ocean though, you dink) by running across America.

Before you go thinking he is just chasing his ego, I can vouch for the man as a quiet, understated, extremely devoted person who is just trying to make it through the day as simply as possible. And, I am so proud of him.

When The Clock Strikes Me

WHEN THE CLOCK STRIKES ME -

when the clock strikes me
the big hand will realize the grandeur
of its illusion
and will begin to shrink
in its own eyes
while the little hand
marvels at the ball of energy
spinning from its palm

when the clock strikes me
everything will stop
and that which was nothing
will become the beginning again

when the clock strikes me
numbers will backfire
symbols will become
that which they symbolize
and sayings like 'out of the blue'
will reveal their hidden origin

when the clock strikes me
people will gather to deconstruct
the myths and fables
that conspired against them
and every new song
will be an antivirus
for an old belief

when the clock strikes me
women will close their doors
jump, dance, and bang the walls
in remembrance of their future selves
while men fight internally
to recall the recipe for freedom

when the clock strikes me
men will recall the recipe for freedom
and will begin to form
rescue teams for dreams deferred

when the clock strikes me
some people will have to die

when the clock strikes me
children will find it cool
to be playful
and adults will find it worthwhile
to play like children

when the clock strikes me
the story of jesus
will simply be told as a children's story
where his name will be replaced with the name of every newborn
and families will celebrate every birth
as the rebirth of the messiah
and all people will think of all people
as chosen

when the clock strikes me
buddha will still be laughing

when the clock strikes me
the powers of being will prevail
over the powers that be

when the clock strikes me
thugs and poets will laugh at themselves
businessmen will serve humanity

world leaders will turn to their mothers for advice
and mothers will turn
to their daughters
for inspiration

when the clock strikes me
something will be different
something will feel completely random
the moment will feel slightly eerie
the unexpected will change places
with the predictable
and life will truly feel like an adventure

when the clock strikes me
no alarm will sound
green streaks of light may mark the night
stray cats may purr
and rub themselves against your ankle
many people will double blink
and pinch themselves
and those who normally don't
will notice the moon in broad daylight

when the clock strikes me
it will strike you too
and even your cynicism
and concrete analysis
will be brought into question
as the most beautiful stranger
makes herself/himself known to you

when the clock strikes me
your loved ones
will glow with the beauty
of complete strangers
and you will have to
reintroduce yourself to your parents
for they will have never met
the side of you that dances
just because you found an old recipe

when the clock strikes me
you will be sitting someplace
alone or with another
reading this
and we will both
go off unexpectedly
spines will tingle
eyes will water

and this moment
on this plane
in my favourite jeans
with jimi blaring in my ears
will become NOW
and FOREVERMORE
and more eyes will water
for they will know
and they will feel it
and live it
and they will turn
to the stranger beside them
and say "you have to read this"
and this will go down in history
as one of those moments
when you knew
that nothing would ever
be the same

I'm sure some of you people who are on reality sandwich often have already read this article, but for those who haven't checked it out yet, please do!

army and YOGA?!!

i can't believe it!
treating psychologically scarred soldiers with transcendental meditation and yoga is the greatest news i have ever heard. so many of our troops end up with post-traumatic stress disorder (who whoulda thought killing fields would do this) and they have not been getting adequate care after discharge. this experimentation with treatments "no matter how far outside the accepted medical form" will be beneficial for the soldiers, their families and even legitimize some of these practices in the eyes of the general public.

Lawmakers rush to rescue Auraria science building

Story Tools

Key lawmakers are on the verge of announcing a way to fund construction of the new science building on the Auraria campus after all.

"They found another source of funding for it," House Speaker Andrew Romanoff told the Rocky this morning.

Romanoff, D-Denver, added that he and others plan to announce the solution today.

Higher education officials cried foul after legislators reversed course last Thursday and decided not to continue funding the $111 million project. The decision came in response to new revenue forecasts that the state would receive $700 million less over the next five years than predicted.

Construction on the first, $35 million phase of the project began in December. The university had expected to receive another $37.5 million in next year's budget.

But the Joint Budget and Capital Development committees decided at the last minute to instead only fund projects that could be completed next year, since it looked like funds would dry up completely for at least two to three years after that.

Committee Chairman Rep. Bernie Buescher, D-Grand Junction, said this morning he is furiously ironing out new legislation that could rescue the science building project.

Details at this point are not completely fleshed out. But the solution would involve the passage of two bills, both authored by Buescher.

The first, co-authored by Sen. Gail Schwartz, D-Snowmass Village, would reroute federal mineral lease revenue growth into higher education capital construction projects, authorizing the state to use the money to borrow about $200 million for projects such as the Auraria science building.

The second bill, which Buescher is drafting this morning, would authorize the state to issue certificates of participation - in essence, allowing the state to borrow money to pay for the rest of the science building specifically.

"We're close but I need to understand some of the technical aspects for this," Buescher said as he rushed through the Capitol hallways. "We're working hard."

Metro State president Stephen Jordan told several lawmakers at the Capitol this morning that the campus is at 98 percent capacity and that the building is absolutely necessary.

The project would double the space available for laboratory classes, and renovate the existing lab building, which is poorly ventilated and thus a danger to students, he said.

elections?

"In 2000 Bush and Cheney stole the election in Florida. In 2004 they played dirty tricks in Ohio. In 2008 could they go one step further — and suspend the election altogether?

The necessary architecture may already be in place. On May 4 last year, the White House issued the National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive, key parts of which remain classified and hence shrouded from public view. The directive outlines procedures to respond to a “catastrophic emergency,” defined broadly as “any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions.” "

late papers, late at night, late tastes grape

this is long (slightly incoherent?) and contains the phrase 'anatomically modern human' (that is what they call us in textbooks. eh?),, , some words,/ thoughts, words

Why all of this learning? Why so much curiosity and desire to discover and ‘know’ and ‘find answers’? Recently, a moment helped to understand these ‘whys’. I sat staring at a fellow ‘anatomically modern human’; we held fierce eye contact while we contorted our faces into bizarre forms…eventually the silly-ness subsided and a feeling of, not quite serious-ness, but definitely intensity grew in the air around, between and within us. He looked like he could have been so many things at once. every moment that I was looking at him he became new in front of my eyes. I had managed to lose my preconceived notions and understandings of who this person supposedly was, including his name and whatever else I had learned to associate with him. I was looking at him with innocence, with curiosity and a (glorious) lack of knowledge…and, inevitably, I came to realize, with slight confusion and fear. I imagined we were ancestors of ours, hominids from a long time ago: our minds and brains had evolved enough that we were not quite rocks or flowers—we were aware of something, but language had not yet evolved, and we had limited ways to communicate. We could not talk of the past, the present, the future—did the past, present, or future even exist? Didn’t we create their existence, in a way, when we began to talk about ‘them’? In this moment, no, they did not exist. The moment simply was, the moments simply were, and the moments simply continued to be. We could not talk about our feelings or emotions; all we could do was look at each other, intensely, and every moment was purely this moment—we were alive, and that was all there was to it, though we could not, would not, have used those words to describe it.

Regardless of whether or not a moment like this actually happened ‘a long time ago’ between hominids of the ‘past’, it happened with us, hominids of the now, and it helped me to understand a large concept that I have been grappling with; which is, why humans ever felt the need or desire to know so much and acquire so much information. I think, among many other things (wonder, curiosity, love), it may have been out of fear and confusion; acquiring knowledge could (would, has, will continue to (hopefully)…) further understanding, allow for clarification, and perhaps dispel those (innate?) feelings of fear and confusion; or teach us to let those feelings go, rather than act with them in mind.

The teaching, the learning: these are what I came to understand as (some of) the reasons for the ‘whys’. Perhaps our ancestor hominids experienced the innocence of ‘not-knowing’; an innocence that was itself unknown, unnamed, to those who possessed it. This innocence encompassed real feelings, which we eventually named as love, wonder, fear, confusion… The intensity of those indescribable, nearly incommunicable feelings invoked our curiosity; our need to find ‘answers’… (answers which would perhaps soothe our worries, so we would not be scared?). Thus, we began looking for, and ‘finding’, ‘answers’, and are continuing to do so. We pursued knowledge and information; we are pursuing knowledge and information still. If we so choose, we are able to use this knowledge and information to dispel feelings of fear and confusion in simple ways; for example, the ability to employ language and speak to a fellow human and let her know that you are there to help her, not hurt her. However, knowledge and information is not always motivated by love; it is this ‘reality’, I think, that initially made me question why we had to go and learn so much and get so ‘smart’ in the first place. I am learning, and will continue to learn, a concept that has been learned before me: a concept embodied by simple designs, such as yin and yang; a concept expressed by other humans, such as visionary artist William Blake: the concept of necessary duality, or dichotomy—both the innocence, the light, and the experience, the knowledge, are necessary halves of the whole.

Hominid reconstructions and representations, both scientific and artistic, are representative of our current state of learning, analyzing, interpreting, acquiring knowledge and information…all in an effort, essentially, to understand/clarify/communicate. We are in the midst of experiencing that know-full experience which succeeds know-less innocence; as a friend put it, we are in the adolescent stages of our evolution. And what of young adulthood? Can we take this experience and use the knowledge gained from it to circle back to the innocence with a bit more intention and understanding? Perhaps young adulthood is too utopian; how about the elderly years? May we, at some point, be able to use this knowledge, this lived and gained and lived experience, to revisit our innocence, in a sense? It would be an innocence reached after the knowing, an innocence pursued with intention that could only have been intended because of all the experience of learning, knowing, finding, discovering, …We may be able to approach life (living things) with the innocent approach of a being who ‘knows nothing’: we look at the flower and wonder about it; we satiate our curiosity with facts and information about the flower; perhaps then we recognize the information about the flower which is unimportant (though the textbook may be interesting and worth appreciating, it is, ultimately, unimportant); then we focus on the qualities of the flower which do matter— the way the wind moves the petals and our hair; the way in which we are simply sharing space with the flower for a moment, existing beside it, within it; the smell and feel of the flower itself,…

Looking my friend in the eyes that night, I felt intoxicated by wonder and love; the slight feelings of fear and confusion, I recognized them; but it was as though I had learned enough to know that fear and confusion had nothing left to teach me, and all I needed to learn, wanted to learn, would continue to learn, was love and wonder…and to follow the example of the flower, and grow towards the light.

,said the Shotgun to the head

Introduction

Have you ever been kissed by God? Passionately (tongue, lips, etc.)? Or are you one who simply condemns God to the realm of the invisible? When do you feel most comfortable? When do you feel most loved? Perhaps it is in the warm embrace of your lover or in the assuring touch of you mother. Perhaps, like me, you have likened this person to God in your life and realized that God was loving you through them. Or maybe you don't believe in God. Cool. Here's a simpler question: Have you ever lost yourself in a kiss? I mean pure psychedelic inebriation. Not just lustful petting but transcendental metamorphosis when you became aware that the greatness of this being was breathing into you. Licking the sides and corners of your mouth like sealing a thousand fleshy envelops filled with the essence of your passionate being and then opened by the same mouth and delivered back to you, over and over again - the first kiss of the rest of your life. A kiss that confirms that the universe is aligned, that the world's greatest resource is love, and maybe even that God is a woman. With or without a belief in God, all kisses are metaphors decipherable by allocations of time, circumstance, and understanding.

This book is the result of a kiss. A kiss that brings symbols to life and fear-based shortcomings to their symbolic death. To be kissed by a deity is nothing short of a miracle. The mind altering/altaring effect can last more than a lifetime. Here is the accoutn of a man so ravished by a kiss that it distorts his highest and lowest frequencies of understanding into an incongruent mean of babble and brilliance. He wanders the streets disheveled and tormented by all that he sees that does not reflect her love. He is a wandering man, sort of like a modern day John the Baptist, telling of the coming of a female messiah that he has known intimately. He is the babbling man you cross the street to avoid. He is the unavoidable end before the new beginning. He is a lover in search of greater love. SHE is One and many: Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction and creation; Oya, the Yoruba orisha of death and rebirth; the Holy Ghost, which is to say, the woman restored to her rightful place in the Holy Trinity. No longer ghost, no longer virgin, She is mother of us all.

Understanding and Imagination in the Light of Driftwood

I've been wanting to put this together for quite some time....This is an audio file containing Rena Jones' Driftwood (2007) and a speech called Understanding and Imagination in the Light of Nature (1992) by Terence McKenna. If you have an hour give a listen...Get comfortable, yoga, close your eyes, turn off the lights and light a candle...whatever you feel.

Listen once, listen to it again...Give it to a friend, a relative, a teacher.

Burn a copy for a long car ride, gather round with friends and listen on a Friday night, and think...are we breathing? or are we just trying to constantly catch our breath?
