Is anyone else just disgusted with the overwhelming appearance of Beatles' music in current advertising campaigns and jingles. The other day, as I sat in front of the television being a product of a generation that indulges in media consumption and apparently endorses these sellouts, I was appalled at two commercials. Target's hello-goodbye, hello-goodBUY which was immediately followed by some bitch telling me "All you need is Luv's." Yeah that's right, Luv's the disposable diaper. Who said it was okay to turn a 1960's peace anthem into into a jingle that sells shit collectors (that probably aren't heady enough to biodegrade and therefore pollute our environment, haha) to young parents? It may make for a clever PR/Ad campaign, but I'm sure, or at least I hope i'm sure, that many consider this a disgrace.
"Elizabeth Freund, U.S. spokeswoman for Apple Corps Ltd., the London-based group formed by the Beatles that helps guard their legacy, said Sony/ATV Music Publishing (a joint venture of Sony Corp. and Michael Jackson) holds publishing rights for “All You Need Is Love.” Sony/ATV does not need permission from surviving Beatles or heirs to license the songs in its Beatles catalog." -International Herald Tribune
Thanks Michael. For pooping in the pants of righteous Beatles fan everywhere.
Lets get some chloral hydrate.....and make Mike a fat Mickey Finn
ReplyDeleteThanks John, Ringo and George for deciding it was legit to sell publishing rights for some of the most important and beautiful songs ever written to the craziest "man" alive.
